What Are Epigenetics?

About Me

Identifying Lifelong Issues How long have you been living with stress of dealing with problems that you simply haven't taken care of yet? Although many people don't think too seriously about making a difference in their own lives, it really pays to focus on taking time for yourself to address ongoing problems. I started taking more of a personal inventory a few years back, and it was obvious that I needed to make some changes. I started this blog as a springboard for myself to work towards impactful change, and I think I have really done a lot to improve things in the long run.

Your genetics are your DNA and how they affect your body. They don't change. If you have a gene expressed in blue eyes, you will always have those blue eyes. Epigenetics involves genetics, but they can change. Epigenetics is all about how the expression of your genetics can be modified but not altered.

Epigenetics

Your epigenetics are changeable, unlike your regular genetics. During your life, things will change. The epigenetics you had as a baby aren't the same as those you had as a teenager, which isn't the same as what you have now. They are affected by your environment, your choices, what you eat, and even various germs. Your epigenetics can be changed by doing one thing, but when you stop doing that, they will eventually revert to what they were. For example, if you start smoking, you are changing your body and epigenetics. But when you stop smoking, you make new changes, and things can return to how they were before or close to. You can have testing done to see what your epigenetics are and what they say at any point. Because they do change, the results of any epigenetic testing may also vary.

Epigenetic Testing

The testing is relatively easy. Basically, all that happens is that you have to give a sample of your blood or spit. That sample is then sent to a testing facility, and they will run your samples through their machines and send you the results. There are a lot of things you can learn from your epigenetic testing results.

Biological Age

You know what your chronological age is. That is how old you are since the time you were born. Your biological age is different, and different body parts can have different ages depending on how various things are being expressed. Your biological age is the age that the parts of your body seem to be. Your eyes can have one biological age, and your brain can have another, and neither of them may be your chronological age. The information about your biological age that you get from the testing can help you make decisions about your health care and may give you some suggestions about how long you will live.

Epigenetics have a huge impact on your life. They can change how your genes are expressed. If you want to know more about your epigenetics, you can find an epigenetic testing center and send a sample.
